Hi all,

I just started using Firefox, and I love it! So much faster than IE. But, I ran into a glitch.

While I was visiting my favorite online game site...POGO... Firefox said it needed to install the Sun Java extension. I let it do its thing, and when it was done, I closed and reopened Firefox to get the extension to function. Went back to Pogo, pulled up a game, and all of the sounds were gone! And, it took the game a long time to load. So, I opened Pogo with IE to see if it worked OK...well, the sound was gone there too. I rebooted the computer, and the same thing happened. So, I disabled the Sun Java thing, and Pogo worked fine in IE, but in Firefox, the sound was still gone. So, I figure that Pogo doesn't like Firefox. My question: can I uninstall the Sun Java thing? Or, is there a setting somewhere that I can fix the sound with?

Running Windows XP and Firefox 1.02

Thanks for any help,
MJ

Firefox and POGO DO NOT play nice together. You do have to use IE to play POGO. Firefox has some issues with Java even after installing the JLIB extension.

That's what I figured. Can I safely delete the Sun Java thing? It is using 117 mb disk space! I have the MS Java on my computer already.

My suggestion is to use Sun Java instead of MS. I just don't remember Sun Java to be that large though. Hmm.

It is the Sun Java Console plug in that got downloaded. I am assuming/hoping that if I uninstall that, that the Sun Jave itself would still be on my computer. I went to the forums on Firefox, but couldn't find any answers there.

I think you can uninstall the Console without effecting the Java itself. Firefox has a extension call JLib, that's the Java plug-in. Now, there has been some bugs with it not working correctly. I'm not sure if they fixed it or not.

However, I saw my mom using firefox downstairs and playing on POGO. The only thing I can think of, if it's just the updated browser without any extensions, it should work. I don't they didn't install anything on it. I'm still trying to figure it out.

Okay...I'll try uninstalling the console in the morning...if it messes anything up, I can always re-install. Thanks for your help. I'll post here how it turned out.

Im using FireFox 1.02 and i play POGO all the time. I have a couple problems here and there with some of the windows, but it works fine fust about every time. I'd suggest uninstalling java and firefox. Then go get firefox. install it again, make sure you deleted the folders for each that way its a fresh start. once you have firefox installed, go to POGO. it'll prompt you for a plugin (java). download and install java as it tells you to, and from there follow the directions of hava install. restart firefox and you should be fine.

Yeah. Also, you really don't need the J2 console anyways... It's more for developers and programmers and the like. All you really need is the plugin and that d/l will be a small one. Nowhere NEAR the size you stated above.

Thank you elessart and Hazylunarrain. I will uninstall as you suggest. Thank God I have broadband! I will have to re-install all of the extensions too...oh, well. My son actually set Firefox up for me last weekend when he was here visiting...but, I can do it by myself, I think...lol!

Okay....
I got it fixed! I didn't have to uninstall Firefox. I did uninstall the Sun Java. Then I went to the Sun Java site, and downloaded the Java Runtime from there, and manually installed it. (I checked the option that included the Java sound on the parts I wanted to install.) I then went into the advanced features of Internet options and disabled the Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, and enabled the Sun Java. And, voila! POGO now works beautifully in Firefox! The Sun Java is still a huge program...shows up as 125 mb in my Add/Remove Programs panel.

Fairry, I think you need to install the Java sound thing when you install the Java. My sounds were all messed up before too. Now, all of my sounds are there and sound fine.

All that matters is that it works now
